It’s Summer, Summertime! (Can you hear Will Smith?) This summer’s pool party theme was Back To The 90’s! It was totally rad. Join me as we go back in time to turn your party into the best decade ever!

90's Party Backdrop Decoration

DECORATIONS: The decorations to me are what make a party. This theme was by far my most favorite and fun. I’ll start with the treat table. For this one I made a fringe color-block backdrop and added 90’s cardboard cutouts. Here is a link to my video and how to make the fringe backdrop. Cardboard cutouts were secured to the fence part of the backdrop with these. Along the treat table I added some fun additions like an old Super Nintendo, purple corded phone, and a teal portable CD player. These fun buckets from Hobby Lobby make for great decor. Oriental Trading has a 90’s party blog post that has fun downloadable sign and labels that I used. I scattered slap bracelets and spray painted cassette tapes throughout the table as well.

90's Party Table Dessert Decorations

FOOD: The food on the treat table was the best part! I ordered custom 90’s themed sugar cookies that were adorable. Then I made Rice Krispie treats with fun sprinkles on top. Watch this video for more info on how to make these. Also on the treat table I added snacks that we loved in the 90’s like DunkAroos, Fruit by the Foot, Fruit Roll Ups, Gushers and some crackers. For drinks I purchased Kool-aid Squeeze drinks for the kids (similar to the squeeze-it’s of the 90’s) also added some Clearly Canadian! For adults they now make a Sunny-D vodka seltzer, so yummy. I had those as well as some Smirnoff Ice drinks (which debuted in 1999).

90's Pool Party

FLOATS: What’s a pool party without fun pool floats? It was hard to choose what floats I wanted for this party because there are so many out there. I settled on the mixtape, cell phone, camera and dolphin (with the Lisa Frank vibes). Walmart had this set that was 100% giving me more Lisa Frank vibes but I already bought too many, LOL! Loving this float that resembles a Super Nintendo controller. Another cool looking mixtape one here.

90's Party Cassette Tape Utensil Holder

MORE DECOR: Some other decorations I had were these DIY cassette tape utensil & napkin holders I made. Check out this video to see how. I like changing a few of our outdoor pillow covers to match the party theme. These were a hit! Then I used these fun 90’s table covers. The party was even more off the chain with this gold chain balloon set.

Plates and napkins that fit theme also help with decor. I bought this set that resembled the table covers a bit. We always have a slushy machine for our parties so I looked far and wide and finally found the best cups of the 90’s. JAZZ cups!

90's Party Sign Decoration

MUSIC: Lastly, the best part of the 90’s the music. Check out my Apple music playlist here: 90’s Playlist

Another addition I had that incorporated music was my signs. Our welcome and goodbye signs. Then our different drink signs for Pina Coladas, Margaritas, Water and Beers. And if you need to tell people to stay out of somewhere, this “door closed” or “Off limits” sign is perfect. If you want to create your own I used this design on the Canva app. Then my favorite sign I custom ordered from Oriental Trading as shown in the pic. This lyric is what started it all!

90's Party Favor Idea

PARTY FAVORS: Koozies are always a great addition for an outdoor party. These 90’s patterned ones were perfect! I then put out the reminder of the slap bracelets for anyone to grab.

One of the best memories of the 90’s was getting air brush shirts and wearing bucket hats. We combined the two and hired an airbrush artist! This was the highlight of the whole day. You can find one near you using www.gigsalad.com.

Hope you have a totally awesome time at your 90’s throwback party!
