Looking to add some extra holiday magic to your Christmas celebration? A Reindeer Games-themed party is the perfect way to bring friends and family together for festive fun! Every year we do a Framily (friends that are like family) Christmas party. Our four families get together, eat, do crafts, games, gingerbread house contest and presents. I've done many different themes so don't forget to check those out too!
Since the theme for 2023 was Reindeer Games, naturally everything was centered around reindeers. For this party the games began right when everyone arrived! Read on for creative ideas to make your Reindeer Games party the talk of the holiday season!
The Game:
The game I chose was a murder mystery game. I added a little flair to it of course! I purchased this murder mystery game from Etsy. You can tell them how many guests you have and their gender so you can customize it to your party. Once all the guests arrived I had my daughter ring the doorbell.
On the porch was a box filled with these confidential envelopes that I made. You can download the file here, print directly on the envelopes or on paper and glue to an envelope. Inside the envelope was the bio for the person they would be for the night. I wanted the game to be a surprise so I started the game early, that way they had time to read over their roles while we ate dinner. You can also send these to your guests ahead of time so they can understand their "person" better and dress the part if they want!
In the kit they give you printouts to lay around the area to have a "crime scene" I decided to go one step further and use an actual Christmas sweater from Savers and added reindeer prints on the back (using a stencil and spray snow), a real mug, clipboard with a list and more. Above is a pic of my crime scene set up and a link to the reindeer print stencil so you can make one too!
Another activity we always do is a gingerbread house decorating contest. Since it was reindeer themed, these reindeer and sleigh gingerbread kits were perfect! The kit can be found at Walmart.
Decorations:
The decorations for this theme were so fun to make! I incorporated reindeers and games. Of course, I have to greet my guests with a chalkboard sign and headband antlers for them to wear, haha. Now on to the table settings.
The table was wrapped with craft paper because later we on will use this space for the gingerbread contest, which gets messy. The reindeer plates and table runner are from Mind's Eye. Santa hat cups are from Walmart. For the utensils, I wrapped them in napkins , tied with pom pom ribbon and added an antler gift wrap embellishment from Walmart. These antlers would work great too!
For the centerpiece I made this 'tree' from games. Try to find games that were square shaped. Place the largest on the bottom and go smaller as you work your way up. Making sure to stagger them for the pointed, tree limb look. Add some lights and a few miniature bulbs and you're done!
Next is the wall decoration. I covered my large picture frame with craft paper and used white paint to make it look like the reindeers were playing games on it. I sprinkled some white glitter so it looked like glistening snow. Topped if off with some fake snow and a reindeer (or moose, LOL) garland.
Now for the treat table! I started with covering the table with a white tablecloth and added a blanket of snow. On the front of the table matching reindeer banners were hung across.
On top was a small white Christmas tree. For the garland I strung together colorful jacks from Hobby Lobby with metallic thread. For the 'ornaments' I used miniature games. I found most of these at Hobby Lobby as well. These games as well as the ones used to make the 'tree' were later given out as party favors and prizes!
Don't forget the cute reindeer named Jenga that i made from miniature Tumble Tower blocks from Dollar Tree. Here is a video on how to make him! This could also be a great craft for the party!
Food:
Now for the yummy part! For desserts my friend's daughter made reindeer themed items. Aren't they so cute?
The special drink of the night was Red Nosed Punch (you can really use any red punch recipe for this). For extra fun i added these rice paper toppers! You can download the png file I made here, then order the toppers from this shop on Etsy. Just slice cherries a little bit (make sure not to cut too far) to add to the edge of the cup to make the reindeer's nose! Everyone loved this!
Crafts:
Every year the kids do an ornament craft so it's something they can bring out every year them decorate their tree at home and have a happy memory come to their mind. Even the adult children humor me and make them :)
This year was a scrabble ornament craft! Everyone used scrabble pieces to make their names. For this you will need leather strips, wooden antlers that lay flat, glue, scrabble pieces, ribbon or twine and small bells. Here is a step by step video on how to craft them.
Photo Backdrop:
Lastly, is the photo backdrop. I made this one with red and white plastic tablecloths with a bit of glitter strips. Then added a balloon arch kit from Walmart and these reindeer balloons. And don't forget to dress the theme. One of my daughters already had a reindeer onesie and the other wore reindeer pj pants.
